Saint Fechín

Saint Fechín founded an abbey at Cong, Co. Mayo c. 623 AD, which later became a great monastery. He also founded many oratories and monastic settlements throughout Mayo and Galway. While claimed by many regions, St. Fechín had his base in Connemara.

He is depicted in a multi coloured green chasuble over cream robes holding an elaborate embellished book.

His overhead symbol represents two monks that he saved and restored to life, when they had been starved by pagans on Omey Island.
