Plaque reads: Rocksboro National School - 1887

According to Monsignor D’Alton in his ‘Short History of Ballinrobe Parish’

“Roxboro was evidently of Anglo Norman times, for Burgh is of that period, but the Irish name was Ceathramha an Clochair, meaning Convent Quarter and would suggest that the old church in Roxboro, some fragments of which still remain, was once a Church or Chapel of a community of nuns.

He goes on to say that it may also be derived from the Irish name given to it – Ceathramha an Clochair – meaning a quarter of stony or rocky land and this description would fit it well” (p 9).

We wonder if anybody has any information or photographs of people or events from the area or indeed any history that you would like to share and help “capture it before it disappears forever”.
